Ingredients
4 cups fresh ripe strawberries, sliced
1 cup white sugar
8 cups cold water, divided
5 cups ice for serving
1 lime, cut into 8 wedges
8 fresh mint sprigs
Instructions
In a large pitcher or bowl, combine strawberries and sugar. Mix well to coat strawberries in sugar.
Add 1 cup of cold water to the strawberries. Let sit for 1–2 hours to macerate, stirring occasionally.
Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean container. Discard the solids.
Top the liquid with the remaining 7 cups of cold water. Stir to mix.
Fill glasses with ice, add 1 lime wedge and 1 mint sprig per glass, and pour the agua de fresa over the ice.
Serve immediately for the freshest taste.
Notes
Use very ripe strawberries for the best flavor. Frozen strawberries can be substituted, but the flavor may be less vibrant.
Adjust sugar to taste, or use honey/cane sugar for a different sweetness profile.
This drink is best enjoyed on the same day it’s made to maintain freshness.
For a non-vegetarian option, a splash of agave nectar could replace part of the sugar.
